Salo

Pasolini’s last work, Salò or the 120 days of Sodom,  is still considered to be one of the most scandalous films in the history of cinema. It’s a loose, allegorical adaptation of Marquis de Sade‘s novel. It is seen as a treatise on pathologies of power which prey on the ignorance of the victims. Pasolini‘s tragic death casts a shadow over the film - Salò is also treated as a kind of a poetic last will. In a cool and devoid of rhetoric way the director documents morally unacceptable situations taken out of de Sade‘s characteristic narrative. It combines subversive amorality with the notorious history of Italy and the Republic of Salò.
