Two weeks ago we celebrated Wim Wenders’s 70th birthday. The director will be one of the most important names at the 20 Forum of European Cinema ORLEN Cinergia. Today we wanted to recommend to all of the Master’s fans an exceptional album, which will be released at the end of November. Wim’s Driven By Music is a 3-record compilation of film songs, which have become identifying marks of the The Wings of Desire creator’s works. The authors and performers of the songs are artists with whom Wenders has been cooperating for many years. Bono with U2, Nick Cave, Laurie Anderson, Roxie Music, Radiohead, Lou Reed, Ry Cooder, Bryan Ferry, Portishead, Calexico, Travis and Patti Smith are among the contributing artists. Music in Wender’s films has become an important element of auteur cinema, also due to the fact that he directed some of the music videos promoting his films by himself, for example the video for the ballad "Stay (Faraway, So Close!)" – a song by U2, which in 1994 was nominated for the Golden Globe Award in the Best Original Song category. An observant viewer will be able to spot parts of the film Faraway, So Close! starring Nastassja Kinski, who will be a guest at 20 Forum of European Cinema ORLEN Cinergia.
Wim’s Driven By Music will be released on 30 November in a special limited edition on vinyl records, so it will therefore be addressed not only to film fans, but also to collectors.
